need cheap safe hotel in mexico city near zocolo? When travelling to Mexico City, safety should be the main concern. In my opinion the Zocalo of Mexico City is not the safest zone to be at. If you MUST stay in a hotel in such area, I would recommend to stay in the Sheraton Hotel Centro Histórico. It will be a little more expensive, but you will be safe and the hotel is spectacular. If your main concern is budget, my understanding it that there is a youth hostel on the back side of the Cathedral of Mexico City (located within the Zócalo) that is not that bad. I have never stayed there, but I reckon that every time I have been nearby you can always see young foreign travellers staying there. If you are willing to change the zone where you will be staying, target Polanco (Hotel Presidente, J.W. Marriot, W Hotel, Camino Real, etc. or a Mexican hotel chain that is called Fiesta Americana, which is always cheap, safe and clean). It is safer, cleaner, and close to the clubbing scene of Mexico City. One final recommendation... NEVER take a taxi on the street. If you must travel by taxi, ask someone in the hotel you are staying to request a "safe taxi" (mexican term: taxi de sitio). This taxis are registered with a local cab association and therefore safer. |
