You will love it in Playa Del. you have to look but you can find cheap places a few years ago I camped at a place called Ruines in the town of Playa. Cheap few $ but some time ago. Mexico has good bus system go any place you want to go inexpensive. From Playa go to Tulum for a few days Don Armando's on the beach then bus to Belize Tulum to Belize in one day Belize city to Cay Cocker or travel inland Belize You will have the time of our life I spent years in Mexico and Central America.

The bus system is great...not your typical Greyhound...upscale service and great prices. There are a lot of day tours that private operators would organize to different locations around the cancun area...see some ruins go to the different islands, etc. I didn't go to Belize but I suspect there are cheap ways to go there...either by plane or by bus.Going north I would reccomend you to go to Merida....then to Tabasco...then Oaxaca (check if the security situation has improved, there has been some incidents lately, otherwise go to the small cityes around the capital), Mexico City is next (there you can take the "turiBus" a public tour bus system that would show you the highlights of the city), then go west to the old mining towns of Guanajuato, San Miguel, Leon and Zacatecas.Afterwards is Monterrey...great nightlife on weekends.A good choice for hotels are Fiesta Inn and Holiday Inn Express. (Around $90 night) But you can check in advance online.Lonely Planet has a great book and the website is useful too....http://www.losmilagros.com.mx/html/index.htmlCheck the tips from travelers sectionhttp://www.lonelyplanet.com/letters/nam/mex_pc.htm

I've seen (but not stayed in) hotels in Mexico that charge $50 pesos (thats about $4.50us). You might want to go for the $10-15 dollar rooms

I have a website with the most information about busing in Mexico available on the web. This is from the intro"If you are going to Mexico for the first time and are expecting the chicken buses you've seen in movies, you will have a great deal of difficulty finding them.Except for some buses in remote areas, the Mexican bus system of today isExtensive • Comfortable • Efficient and Punctual"For more info on buses within Mexico, go tohttp://www.larpman.com/transportpages/buspages/buswi.htmlIn Chetumal there are two locations for buses connecting to Belize. For more info, go tohttp://www.larpman.com/transportpages/buspages/busouth.html______________________________________ _Traveling by discount airline can be about the same or cheaper than busing along many routes. For more info, go tohttp://www.larpman.com/transportpages/airpages/airdiscount.html__________________________________ _____Hostels are usually the cheapest, clean way to go if you are traveling alone. Price usually around US$8-$10. Sharing a decent budget hotel room can be about the same. For info including rankings, go tohttp://www.hostelworld.com/index.phpFor info including visitor comments, go tohttp://www.hostelz.com/hostels-in/Mexico
