Have you travelled europe by RV with family in 4 to five weeks? We have a motorhome (which is what we call an RV in the UK) and are 'camping-caristes' as far as the French are concerned! :-) You will find it easy to travel in France with an RV, but you could spend 4/5 weeks there just seeing France. Another 4/5 weeks in the UK. Especially if you are not wanting to rush about. In the UK this is impossible, anyway. Most of us are abandoning our home country to travel abraod - from the use of the term RV I gather you are from the Americas, so let me put it into persepctive for you. On average, you pay 2.88 USD per gallon. (Source: Los Angeles Times.) That's 1.52 GBP per gallon, which we haven't seen here for God knows how many years and why we get a tad irritable about the prices Americans are charged and whinge about. :-) Our fuel now runs at roughly 1 GBP per litre, and there are five litres in just over a gallon, I think, and that's 9.41 USD per gallon. A little different to what you might be used to paying.... It is not a lot cheaper in Europe. So when you are thinking of how much of Europe you want to see in those 4/5 weeks, for goodness' sake factor in the cost. Most RV's seem to average 28mpg around the 22' length. The consideration of this cost might curtail you wanderlust somewhat. However, we still do it because of the freedom to have our accommodation with us. The French, in particular, are great motorhomers and enthusiastic about providing facilities for them in even the smallest rural areas. The British, on the other hand, put up notices everywhere saying 'no overnighting', 'no caravans/motorhomes to park here' all over the place. It's also very expensive to stay in hotels in Britain, as most now seem to be geared in the business markets, and those which aren't quite frankly charge exorbitant prices - particularly in the cities. That's not to say that we don't have a wonderful country worth visiting, as we do. These sites might give you some interest in motorhoming in the UK: the first one of them will help you with any questions which will be answered by members. But my advice is still to pick one country if you can and just tour that in 4/5 weeks. If you had 4/5 months it might be worth doing the lot! |
