Default What is the cheapest way to get to Little Rock, Arkansas from New Jersey?

Given the sky high gas prices and increased cost of flying, what is the cheapest and quickest way to get to Little Rock and back from Central New Jersey for two adults? Amtrak costs me $606 for travel alone. Yahoo! Travel quotes me $700+ for air fare, stay and rental car. But there are hidden costs like, parking in Airport, taxes etc.Is it worth it to simply rent a standard car or a compact SUV ? Thank you all for any answer.

Well, to take your question literally...The cheapest way is to hitch-hike or use craigslist's rideshare. The second cheapest is by Greyhound bus. Probably $100-150 rt.+ 1/2 off for a companion. But I'm surprised that was the best flight. Try cheaptickets.com, orbitz, travelocity, etc. Try a flight from NYC, might be cheaper. Most rental car companies, like Budget, have websites with prices on them.

Take the Greyhound. $126 pp round trip with 14-day advance purchase.

Renting a car that receives 30 MPG on highway will still be cheaper than flying or taking the train. If one rents a SUV with 20 MPG, gas costs will go up 50% and remain cheaper than the train or plane.
