This question is a little difficult to answer but I will try my best. To get a cheaper flight to go to Tokyo you have to shop around. Last year I went to Tokyo for around $700 in November. A couple of months ago tickets to Tokyo from San Diego were $379. So it really depends on timing for good deals on tickets. Here is a site where I saw the tickets for cheap http://www.iace-usa.com/index_us.htmAs for Hotels, it all depends on location and the amount of luxury you require. I stayed at Le Méridien Pacific Tokyo which is a very nice hotel. Free Internet and not too expensive. I used Hotel points for the trip so it was free for me. You are planning this trip way in advance so I think you can find better deals. If you can try and get a hotel close to the Yamanote line. Also if you can try and get a Hotel that has a Bus that has a shuttle service to and from the Airport. It just makes things alot easier if its you first time in Japan. As for the money part it depends on how you spend it . I think $1,000 would be fine for 5 days. Just make sure you don't eat Kobe beef everyday. There are always ATM around anyways. Prices for things can be a little expensive I've seen a piece of fruit go for 500 yen. Since your not leaving til next year you need to take into account the yen to dollar may change by the time you go.

A can of coke from a vending machine costs 100Y. I pretty much just thought of each 100Y like a dollar and things were fairly comparatively priced. I didn't find anything that was a particular 'bargain'. Restaurants tended to be expensive. And be forewarned, breakfast to them is ENTIRELY different. They eat salad and rice and soup for breakfast. Usually the big hotels will have some American fare on the buffet breakfasts but it still isn't like Denny's!Hope you have a nice time. I was there for last Thanksgiving to visit my husband whose sub was stopping for a week. I didn't think I'd like it, but I actually wouldn't mind going back!My plane ticket was about $700. We stayed at the Le Meridien Grand Pacific for about $160/night in a really nice comfy room with 2 double beds. The hotel staff was WONDERFUL and the hotel gorgeous. I booked thru cheap tickets very last minute...you might want to shop around some more.

You can't buy a cup of coffee for 100 yen. You can find a much cheaper hotel than the Hilton !

A round trip ticket to Japan from the US will cost about a $1,000. You can certainly find a nice hotel for 5 days that'll be cheaper than the Hilton. Good luck and have fun!

When I traveled around Japan, I allowed $100 for food/admission fees and $50 for souvenirs per person per day, not including airfares or accommodation. I came home with money left over, but it really depends on you and what kind of things you want to do. If you stay in Tokyo the whole time, then this amount would be fine. If you plan to travel to other cities then allow extra cash, especially if you want to take the bullet train.
