Default Is it a bad idea to travel to Eastern Europe in the winter? Would it be better in the summer?

Aren't there way more tourists in the summer?Keep in mind that I am from Canada.

They suffer from bitter winters. It's better to visit in the summer or spring.

It depends, if you're going to visit the Northern areas and countries of Eastern Europe it's better in the summer, if you're going to visit the Balkanic countries, it's better in summer too, but because of the beaches.

I am now living in Northern New York State having lived in both Estonia and the Czech Republic for two years--and two winters--each. If you don't mind days that are in the 40sF, and sometimes cooler, then you aren't going to mind Eastern and Central Europe. You know how to dress, and so there you are. The crowds are thinner in Winter, and you'll get to meet the locals in a less stressful (tourist-wise) atmosphere. Go for it!!!

Define Eastern Europe. If you are in Latvia or the Northern Ukraine, then it will be cold. If you are in Dubrovnik, then it will be reasonable. I amin Ljubljana right now, and this weekend it was sunny and 12 degrees. I was playing guitar on the street all day. Do research on the Web for the region you wish to visit, and look at the average weather for this time of year, and plan accordingly. And come to Slovenia- it is amazing.
