| I need some information on backpacking through Europe? From Denver, in the summertime, you can figure on paying at least $600 RT to Paris (not sure which airport), For your itinerary, one to two months should suffice, giving you enough time to see enough, and experience your cities, Remember, though, Berlin is a bit off the beaten track, I think it's an all-day train or overnight from around Munich. And yes, trains are a good way to go, check raileurope.com for passes. Some people are flying almost everywhere, these days, because there are cheap airfares within europe, but I think, with your itinerary, that that's a less appropriate way to go.You might try flights to London and Luxembourg, but I think Paris is the cheapest. July is better than August, June is better than July. If you can do two months, leave the US in late May, early June. For Spain, here is my suggestion. Madrid, Seville, Granada, Barcelona. A couple of days for each, and if you can spare the time, a day each for Segovia and Toledo, even Ávila, if you want. San Sebastián, Bilbao and Santander are all good (pick only one) for a day, also. Those last three, should be on your way from Paris to Madrid, the first three, you can stay in Madrid and day-trip, if you like. Salamanca is also nice, for a side trip. Lisbon, too, if you have time, you want at least two to three days for there. I would also suggest not to miss Munich, and some people swear that Hamburg is really nice. From Munich, you might want to take the Romantic Road bus, and see the castles, esp. the famous Neuschwanstein. You will love southern Spain, btw. and for earning money...you'll have to find someone else on that one, in my day it was under-the-table type stuff and really menial labor, things like cleaning, and walking about with sandwich boards for advertising.Oh, and try to avoid flying through Miami. It's a big, dirty, unpleasant airport, and the people are just RUDE! (bad experience)- |
