Watching crisis after crisis unfold in africa has developed my opinion that there is SOMETHING wrong with africa in general. God knows that they had and still have many more resources than europe ever did interms of oil, gold, diamonds, and contrary to popular belief very fertile farming land (with the exception of the sahara) which is only spreading because of bad farming practices.I do believe that the west can pump as much money and aid into the region as they please it wont change a thing even in the supposedly rich country of s.africa it is a must that you have an armed guard while travelling in certain areas. Watching the recent crisis in kenya I cant help but think that the only differance between 150 years ago and today is that the various factions and "nations" have guns and tanks instead of spears and shields. Opinions please. sorry for any offence caused.

People of Kenya are worried that there rights will be taken from them. They have been working very hard to turn their country into something good. The neighbors to the north is an Islamic run country and they have watched as their neighbors get controlled and killed by the government.Yes, there are riches to be had on the continent of Africa, but just like most places the population does not share in those earnings. Many of the companies that own the diamond mines and oil are not even African. They do like the low wages they pay their workers though.

i think its geographical. Its not really demographic because if you were to talk about race and clans, then what about diverse nations like china, USA? in each of these countries there was some common ideal or a leader or something like that. US ideal is democracy, even then, the Declaration did not include black slaves, until MLK came along and changed everything. and then in china, you had the first emperor qin shi huang who conquered all the other small 'countries'. then he established a common language, mandarin (though its still not that widely spoken in china) and enforced laws, burnt books to remove opposition, blah blah blah.i think in Africa its because they are unable to overcome the poverty, the climate and all that. to add to that, random people are supporting certain tribes by providing arms and that makes things worse. and hence all the tribes are almost evenly matched so they kill and kill but nobody conquers another to establish order.then this killing hurts the ariculture and worsens poverty. its a really, really viscious cycle.

Africa is largely tribal in its political structure. Like Pakistan, Afghanistan, etc., Africa has much development ahead of it before it gets on track. Germany begain its unification with Martin Luther, Common Language and the Guitenburg Press. Unitl then, Germany was a tribal unity.United States, same thing. Colonial (tribal) unities. Even with statehoods, we still had fundamental differenecs between an industrial North and an agricultural South.Africa will have to fight it out until they work out their differences.

Yes tribal issues are one reason for there riots but have you noticed that poverty and greed are also an issue. Any excuse for a riot where they can loot and burn down property. The same things happen in the UK where under privileged blacks, and some whites need only a small excuse to loot.Soon the riots will die down and food will become scarce again and we in the west will have to bail them out yet again
