My ex is taking my kids on vaction in january for 15 days and i'm seriously thinking of finally taking a trip to England which i've wanted to do for a long time. I'm 43 and a female, tips would be helpful. I also understand that it's really cold during january. Anyone care to share there experience with me? (female/male responses are welcomed. Thanks!!By the way, i'd be traveling by myself, without the kids. Just me ,myself and i for the first time!

England is a great place to visit by yourself, you can really dig into it. I love travelling and I went to england and france (paris) by myself. I read books and saw the sights went shopping and met interesting people. it was great

I've traveled in England so many times, with friends or by myself. It's fun! you can go to pubs and meet great friends. January is really cold so pack you luggage with warm clothes as well as your kids. It rains a lot during winter so raincoat for the kids would be appropriate. Small hotels doesn't give a lot of free stuff such as bottle of water, coffee, tea etc. bigger hotel does. Hope you have a great holiday.

Buy the Lonely Planet guide for London, England or Britain (if you want to visit Wales and Scotland as well) and use it to find places to stay and what to see there.I think they are the best for a lone traveler.I have been in England a lot, I like most of the country, London is a must if you have not been there yet, but do also travel into the country.Traveling alone you safe a lot of money by staying in Hostels, and you will not be the oldest there (there might even be days you are the youngest.) Being female while traveling does not make a lot of difference, you still have to be sensible, but the same rules apply as when you go to the big town next to where you liveo not walk in the park and dark narrow streets at night, do not go home with people/men you have just met and do not show big amounts of money or cards.Get your money from the ATM, make sure your bank card is ready for use abroad and ask what each use will cost you.Credit cards are useful for bigger bills, like the hotel, and for emergencies.Eating out alone in restaurants is a bit odd at first, but mostly the waiters are friendly when they realize you are a tourist, and meals in pubs are easy to get, filling and hardly ever lonely.If you stay in hostels which serve meals, use them, as you will always meet people that way.As you have wanted to go to England a long time, try to list all the things you really want to see and look them up on a map, Google maps can search on the most unlikely details, and will show up things relative to each other.England is not huge, but it does still take time to travel from one end to the other, so plan that you make the most logical tour.Here is a link to a travel planner that can find you bus and train as well as car routes:http://www.transportdirect.info/Web/Templates/Home.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID=%7b9B2CEBBB-B2D4-4022-A0D1-5B939541864D%7d&NRORIGINALURL=%2fTransportDirect%2 fen%2fHome%2ehtm%3fcacheparam%3d7&NRCACHEHINT=Gues t&cacheparam=7&repeatingloop=YI expect you will use public transport most, but it might be useful to rent a car for a few days if you want to see a lot of the countryside.Weather will be cold and misserable, on average just above freezing, but it can be a couple of degrees higher or lower, and most likely rain, but it can be clear for days or there can be snow.Rain and wind-proof outer layers, and several warm layers underneath, depending on what you are used to at home.
