We are planning a vacation to grand cayman in November and looking for information so I thought I would post on Y/A. I know the island was hit by a major hurricane 3 years ago. Has it recovered yet? Also, we are considering staying at Seven Mile Beach and wondering if this is a good choice? We are also looking for information about cell service. Do Sprint or cingular cell phones work there? Any comments about the above questions or any other thoughts from recent Cayman travelers would be appreciated!

Well, I have been there several times...It is infested with tourist...Shoulder to shoulder when several ships are in port.You should be fine away from the port area.Yes, Cingular will work. They have an office there on main. You can get a 30 day overseas option for a few bucks....Good Luck.

yes i went a couple months ago. It is a very clean island. The island is lacking a lot of trees because of the hurricane but in the tourist areas it was not bad, I think they have recovered for the most part. The seven mile beach is fun and it is a public beach so you can go anywhere on it. You will pay a little bit for a beach umbrella and chairs. It was $10 for umbrella and i diddn get chairs. You can visit magaritaville for a drink and to be with other tourists. Dont forget to get some rum cake. I didnt like the plain rum cake for me the pineapple was better or other flavors.
