First it is Puerto Plata. From Puerto Plata airport to Sosua this is a good road and this is only a15 min drive so I think your car will not be stolen on this small trip.If you are in a "cheap hotel" you can have the problem that the security is also "cheap" so take care about the rented car and a good parking with security. I say always : Cheap is expensive!....... Try to enjoy it !

The drive from Puerto Plata Airport to Sosua takes me 8 minutes in moderate traffic. Afterall the Puerto Plata Airport is actually in SOSUA and NOT the city of Puerto Plata. Sosua is in the Province of Puerto Plata but not in the City of Puerto Plata.I wouldn't worry about having your car stolen in Sosua. I haven't heard about a car getting stolen in 8 years. Driving here is UnCivilized and that is putting it mildly. Better infrastructure than Costa Rica but crazier drivers with no respect for anything and everything. Now I drive here without a second thought. I put my NY Cabdrivers hat on and let the Dominicans fend for themselves! The hotels in the Dominican Republic are inexpensive by US standards but not by Dominican Standards. I pay 30 bux a night outside of Sosua and in Sosua you will spend anywhere from 22 bux a night for a dump to 65 dollars a night for the higher end.Have a great trip. I have lived in Sosua for 8 years.

I will suggest, if you can get a driver--get a driver. Driving in the DR is one of the most harrowing experiences you will ever go through. Get someone to drive for you.
