Default UK Hand Luggage Security Questions?

Why do some people answer the above type of questions with " check with your airline.. "The airlines do not set the rules around what is/isn't allowed in hand luggage. The Dept of Transport tells the individual Airport Security Org's what is prohibited so all questions should be directed to either www.dft.gov.co.uk or to the Airport themselves. The airlines really don't care what's allowed & not allowed as they pay the airport to handle all security matters for them.cheersre: 1st reply, name 1 thing allowed by Security but denied by airlines.re 2nd replyhow are you ever going to know what's in a passengers hand luggage?again TSA is US equivelant of UK's Dept fot Transport (orig point)3rd reply - once again I refer you to the fact that the UK is not the 51st state of the USA.

Not true. The airport security dictates the maximum permissable through their security, but individual airlines can impose stricter limits within this.

Instructing passengers to consult their Carrier's website AND the TSA Website (or authority specific to destination - In Canada it is CATSA or Transport Canada) is excellent advise! None of us are completely fluent in all policies and procedures. Check yourself and be sure!Airlines do care about what is and is not allowed. As an Incharge Flight Attendant, I am responsible to maintain a safe and secure environment for all Passengers and Crew.Often we are forced to address safety issues on board the Aircraft. The screeners are good but sometimes they miss things. Or sometimes we look for things that they do not. It is a joint effort to keep our skies safe!I almost always answer questions with the disclaimer "Check with your Airline". As an Industry Professional, I offer only expert advise. Take it or leave it.

Incorrect. The airlines have a responsibility to check all the luggage's and passenger screening in case of terrorist. The airlines follow the rules of department of homeland security or they'll be out of business. It effects millions of travellers each day. If you said they don't care, you're wrong.

I agree with you, been on three different flights this year from the UK and was allowed different things each time, I think it depends on the mood of the custom staff at the time and nothing to do with the airline.

You are right, except for maybe one rule. The only rule I can think of that is an airline rule and not a security rule is: Some strict religious countries will not allow you to have alcohol on its plane.
