I'm 18 years old. && I've seen people say that you dont need an ID if you're under 18... But on my way here I lost my ID and I was able to get on the plane anyway.. I didnt know if it depended on the airline or airport .. whether you could get on without ID or not. Please dont suggest getting a temp ID. I only have my birth certificate and you need 2 forms of identification to get a photo ID..Anyway. I'm flying northwest & from OKC.. Will I need my ID? I didnt need it at the BHM airport!
The first and third answers are incorrect. A passenger does not need government-issued identification to get through security; however, the TSA will require additional screening at the security checkpoint in order to pass through. The link provided has a letter from the TSA which specifically indicates that an ID is not necessary to pass through security.
Actually the first answer is correct! If you are a U.S. citizen and traveling via plane within the United States then you WILL need a government issued photo-ID such as a drivers license or military ID.If you are not a U.S. citizen you will need a passport and if you are a U.S. citizen traveling outside of the country via air (plane) you will need a passport regardless.
It is easier/quicker to pass through airport security with a government issued photo ID but (as others have indicated) it is still possible to travel by air without it.
I'm 18 and I flew to Florida this April. I had to show my driver's license and my student ID card at the Airline ticket counter and at security check point.
