Default I have only 2 hours for a connecting flight at JFK. Will I make it?

I am flying from Cancun to JFK with American Airlines. Arriving at 8 pm. Then leaving to Amsterdam at 10 pm with Northwest/KLM. Will I make it in 2 hours? It are seperate flights. Do I have to go through immigration and security and such things? I am not a US-citizen.

You can probably make it. I had a 2 hour connecting flight and I made it. The problem is (at least last time I traveled from France to US), they make everyone go through security again (metal detectors, checking for liquids, and everyone has to recheck their luggage). You also have to go through customs. They had separate lines at customs for US and non-US citizens. It seemed like the non-US citizens line was shorter. I just made the flight (ran through the airport and were the last ones on the plane.) So, you may want to have a backup plan in case you miss your flight.

sure. You will need to go thru customs & immigration (and then security again), but lines at that time of night should not be so bad...

You don't really have a connecting flight. This is a major problem having two separate bookings. If you flight from Cancun is delay...you are stuck in JFK and KLM will not help putting you on their next flight, nor AA, and you must purchase a new ticket, since it would be a NO SHOW.If you had ONE ticket from Cancun to Amsterdam via JFK, with two separate airlines, which means two segment for you trip, and if anything happen, KML or AA will help you. Also two hours is really tight, but who knows.......

I think it will be really tight because the time your flight lands at JFK, it is still the airport's busy time. Between 7:00 pm and 9:00 pm, lots of aircraft are taking off (international flights) and landing. Therefore there is a chance your flight may be delayed. Also after you land, you have to factor in the aircraft taxiing into the gate. AA operates out of Terminal 8 or 9 and you have to get to the International Terminal which is I think Terminal 4. Hopefully you are sitting near the front of the plane on your flight to JFK because it takes time for passengers to get off aircraft due to them grabbing their luggage out of the overhead bin.Since you are switching terminals, you will have to go through security again and I think you still have to go through immigration.Hope you can make the connection.
