Default Partial or Full Refund for Delayed Flight?

I had a flight yesterday that was supposed to arrive at 1045 am, but due to delays, cancellations, and reroutes, arrived at 1045pm. I had to go to different airports, wait, hungry, and then my bags arrived late. Do you think if i called the refund department of northwest airlines and told them my situation, and how i failed to meet military obligations due to the lateness of the flights that they will give me a refund, either partial, or a voucher for a future flight?

I'm pretty sure that they won't give you a refund. That's not good business for them. They would rather prefer to give you a voucher because that way, you'll fly with them again.

I've been working in customer service for the airlines for a couple years now and the industry standard on refunding flights is all dependent on the cause. If your flight was delayed due to a mechanical problem with the aircraft, crew arriving late, overbooking, or something like that the airline will likely give you some kind of compensation. However, if it was something that was out of their control such as bad weather, they will not issue any kind of refund or voucher as it was not their fault. So basically if it was the airline that caused the delay, yes you will be compensated. If not, then you won't.

Would depend on the reason for the delay, was it somethin with the airline (mechanical) or an "act of god (weather)"? If it was weather and the airline could not do anything about it, then they may not budge. A refund or partial refund is not going to happen but you may be able to talk to them and get a voucher of some sort towards a future flight. Chances are the amount of the voucher, if granted to you, would be like $50 or $100 but you can always try.
