UNACCOMPANIED MINOR! help? Yes, you just go as an adult. Being an Unaccompanied Minor isn't a big deal though. You simply follow someone around. They help you find your gate and get your bags. I'm a former Flight Attendant and I had lots of UM's your age and even older, especially on international flights. Many kids your age have to be made UM because of custody arrangements. Their parents are divorced so while they're flying, they're not under either parents' care so the court usually requires that they go as UM's and are then the airline's responsibility. How comfortable are you finding your gate? Collecting your luggage? Finding the person meeting you? Please, if you haven't flown in awhile, consider opting to go this way. They're not babysitters. You simply follow them around and chances are, there will be others. When I was your age (or I think a little younger), I flew to from San Francisco somewhere on the East Coast. There was some miscommunication with my mom and my aunt about my arrival time and my aunt and uncle didn't show up for ages. I was waiting and waiting... When they arrived finally, someone from the airlines warned them that they had nearly called the authorities! This was about 30 years ago so I imagine they would be on the phone quicker today. My mom figured that I was used to flying and that it was nonstop, etc. I hope the adults in your life are more organized and make sure you have a cell phone (not invented back then...)Have a good trip either way! |
