Children Flying alone (Unaccompanied minors)? Children can fly unaccompanied with the airlines crew. My daughter has flown many times by herself. She is 14. And, actually, she left today to go back to her dad's house in another state. She is still too young to fly alone. If she is flying alone, there is a fee to allow this to happen. It is $50. With this fee, they attach a brightly colored arm band, escort the child to the plane, and escort the child off the plane. They sit the child close to them, close enough for the child to be watched at all times. You must specify who is meeting the child at the gate. Make sure that the name matches the ID. If it doesn't, such as a married name--make sure the ID matches, or they will not allow them to leave with the child until calls are made to verify. They help the child if plane changes are needed, and make sure the child does not leave the area during lay overs. The fee is required until the child is 15. There will be no problems with your children staying together, although, I know that they need to be 15 or older to not require this service. |
