Default I need to send a live animal (miniature dachshund) as cargo, but what is the cheapest way to do it?

Well, I booked a flight with Southwest Airlines and apparently they do not accept animals on board or as cargo unless they are for persons with disabilities. I could leave my dog with my husband, but I would prefer my dog to be with me while I'm on a 2 week vacation. I did call American Airlines and it is like $195 one way. Is there anything cheaper? Like does FedEx send out animals? Please note that this is a live animal for you silly folk. (Oh, and I'm not going to go into every detail as to why I want my dog with me and why I don't want to leave my dog with my husband - I just want someone who can answer this question straightfoward or who actually has a very good suggestion.)To answer the 2nd question - I'm really not sure why Southwestern Airlines forbids animals as 'under the seat' passengers or cargo. Once again they must be a service animal.

Try contential Airlines. I took my cat with when i moved to las vegas nevada. It was 80 dollars the animal has to be less then 10 pounds and there can be no more than two animal per plane. So if you get a flight with them call the 1-800 number to let them know you are bringing a pet on board so they can make a note of it. And when you check in you pay the 80 dollars. I don't know what it is if you send the animal alone as cargo.

Call Delta Dash via Delta Airlines and speak with them. They fly animals all of the time.Question though: If this is a small Dachshund why can you not take it on board as carry on? Most airlines allow pets to be brought on board as long as the will fit in a carrier that will fit beneath your seat. Perhaps you should book with another airline?Good Luck to you!~Tyed~

There are temperature restrictions for flying them as cargo, and it is not very safe. They get loose and lost, dropped, or forgotten and the plane leaves without them. That is one reason why so many airlines will not take them anymore. Find an airlines that will let you have the dog under the seat. Tried Delta?
