Default Question about Southwest Airlines?

I never fly Southwest because I hear it's ghetto and they don't even give you a free soda or pretzels any more. Is that still true? I used to work at the airport and even the stewardesses uniforms were just a shirt and pants. I was thinking of taking them for a 4.5 hour flight just because it's so cheap, but am wondering if you even get served bottled water or anything? Do they sell snacks?

They serve free soda and non-alcoholic drinks. For beer, wine or other spirits it is 4 dollars. They also offer peanuts or pretzels. They do not have food that you can buy.Buy a sandwich before you board.

All of the airlines are pretty bad these days (I travel for business and hardly ever get upgraded) so if it's a matter of southwest versus any other coach class travel, and southwest is cheaper, fly southwest. You will get free water or soda, just like the rest of the airlines...I always bring my own food on flights because the snacks they sell are all salt & sugar. Have a good trip!

they are ghetto with respect to customer service, from what i hear. i have only flown them one time and they were fine. it was a short two hour flight . they had old planes , but the plane was clean and they had quite a bit of room in so far as the seating assignments went. i think they served soft drinks. i didn't have anything as it was such a short flight.

No, it's definitely not a ghetto. Service is pretty much nonexisent on all of the major domestic carriers. Some airlines have eliminated free soda and pretzels, but Southwest is not among them. They also have friendlier staff and more customer-friendly polices than other airlines. The only downside to flying them is that they don't have reserved seating. If I had to choose between Southwest, Northwest, US Airways, or United, I would choose Southwest and it wouldn't even be a close contest.

I pretty much always fly Southwest. They have the best fares. I fly cross country once or twice a year and it's usually $230 total. I think their customer service is really good. The people are usually very nice. You get a drink or two plus a snack box with crackers, cookies, chesse, granola bar, etc. You get about four or five things like that to eat. Most airlines do not feed you a meal anymore for a domestic flight. They don't have a movie but that's about it. Plus it's open seating. You can go online 24 hours before your flight and print out a boarding pass. No waiting in lines and you might be able to board really quickly.

Unless you are in first class, all airlines are "ghetto" nowadays. Southwest actually does better than most (except for JetBlue in my opinion). They offer low fares, clean planes and a decent on-time track record. When I travel, I pack a few snacks (granola bars) so I am less dependent on airline food.

Default Question about Southwest Airlines?

I thought they were ghetto too before I flew them. Here is my comparison of two seperate trips home the first with SWA and the second round trip with North West that connected with a Delta flight (sorta).First off, North West cancelled my flight an hour prior to departure. Not due to weather, just low occupancy. They never informed me of that. Had to scramble to get them to put me on another route to get home. 2 hours later I'm catching a redeye on United (AA return trip)and a different Delta flight. My trip with South West encountered routing problems as well. Weather socked in my connecting flight so they rerouted me. End result was I arrived 5 minutes sooner at my final destination and for my trouble had the entire cost of the flight given back to me in voucher form. South West wins the customer service battle. On the flight, SWA seats are much larger and more comfortable than Delta, United or American. For that matter, more comfortable than any airline domestic (SWA clones excluded) or international outside of Business or 1st class. Same free snack service, nothing special...water soda, peanuts same as any other airline. On a 4.5 hour flight you MIGHT get meal service from a legacy carrier, but not if you connect any where. If meal service isn't offered on a legacy you'll pay the same as you would on a SWA flight for that sandwich. The cabin crew are also more attentive in general than domestic legacy crews. The only odd thing about SWA is the seating and confirmation. 24 hours before your flight, go to their website and confirm you'll be there. You'll print your boarding pass which will have a letter on it A,B or C. The earlier you confirm the higher chance of gettign A group. A boards, then B then C. No assigned seats, you pick which one you want from the available ones. The airlines are all much more ghetto than they were 15 years ago. Pick your poison.
