Southwest Airlines Boeings? You have 3 categories of 737First is the Original (1965-1980) – NO glass cockpit-100 and -200 variants. These were well before glass cockpit was even thought aboutSecond is the Classic (1981-1992) – NO glass cockpit-300 and -500 variant. These as well do not have glass cockpitsThird is the Next Generation (1993-present) – YES glass cockpit-600,-700,-800,-900 variants. With these Boeing completely remodeled the 737. You get a Six-screen LCD glass cockpit with modern avionics, retaining crew commonality with previous generation 737. This is on every; I mean every, Boeing 737 made from 1993 to nowIn regards to Southwest Colors, the beige, red and orange strip were introduced with the company and after 30 years (2001), Southwest decided to change their livery to what’s called the Canyon Blue Fleet. As of right now only the -700 variant (newest models) have the new livery. Eventually all Southwest jets will have the Canyon Blue Fleet, but as with all airline livery updates, it takes years before all jets in a fleet are one livery. Just look at what happened to United. In 2001 they decided to change their old gray and orange to the new blue and white and to this day only 50% are in the new colors.Try to fly those -700 models. Otherwise if you fly the -300 or -500 it will be like flying a fighter jet in the 1960's, because there are a million gauges that look old and outdated. Southwest eventually is going to get rid off all their all models and only operate the -700. In fact they have placed an order for 128 more -700s. The odds are in your favor of flying a glass cockpit system. Enjoy.Southwest is a great company; for employees that is. You will get great benefits and a pay that revivals the flagship carriers. Plus you will be working for one of the most financially successful airlines in the world. You can rest assure this airline will not fail while all the flagship carriers do.Hope this helps |
