Default Airline potty break?

I adopted a little dog recently and am flying to my parents home with him for the holidays. He is a small little guy and thus will be flying as a carry-on. The flight is from California to Texas, with a one-hour lay-over. My question: on the layover, is there anyway to give him a potty break? Of course, I assume I can't take him outside, but do airline staff ever do this? (I'm flying Continental, if that makes a difference.) My mom suggested that I take a potty pad and have him go in a bathroom stall on that. Problem is, I've been housetraining him (he goes outside), so I'm not even sure he would use a potty pad, and if he did, I'm concerned that would confuse him about where he is supposed to go.Anyway, if anyone has any experience flying with their dog and has any insight on the potty issue when on a longish (7-hour) flight, I'd appreciate any tips! Thanks.

What a good question, I would call the airline and ask what they think... really interesting though

I fly with my dogs all the time. If you want the dog to potty outdoors, during the layover, you will have to take him... and go through security again. Be aware, not all airports have an area suitable for dog pottying.I actually have my LARGE adult dogs use 2 potty pads while on a lay over if I absolutely feel they MUST go (try an overseas flight!!). For a 7 hour flight, I would probably restrict food and water and simply give an icecube or two during transit. So far.. Chicago O'Hare is my LEAST favorite airport... I always end up a LONG way away from the door to go outside.. and there are times I simply cannot walk fast.

This is a great question as I am planning on flying with my new puppy in December. I am laying over in Chicago :- ) I was planning on taking some of those wee wee pads, and hope she will go on that, and I can keep everything dry. Hope it works.
