Which American airline would you say is the best in terms of overall experience-Virgin Atlantic, Usair,? (By the way, Virgin Atlantic is not an American airline. Did you mean new airline Virgin America?).This is a very subjective question, because you've got all different types of travellers from all different parts of the country, with allegiances, horror stories, pet airlines, and "never-again's!" But I'll bite.... Northwest. I am a value-conscious business traveller who must fly transatlantic 2-3 times per year, monthly within Europe, connections within the US to my destinations, and connections via Amsterdam in Europe with Northwest's partner airline, KLM. Northwest's current transatlantic product is superior among US airlines in economy class--period. I have flown in the past 18 months United, USAir, Continental, and Delta transatlantic (as well as SAS). With over 40 movies, video features, games and other diversions, that can be started, stopped, paused at any time you want, the flight time seems to pass more quickly for me. With meals that have been just a half-notch better than all the rest; with free beer and wine throughout the flight; and with new Airbus 330 aircraft with slightly above average seating room; combined with KLM's stellar customer service every time I deal with them (when in Europe, all NWA concerns are handled by KLM--this is good!); with a generous mileage program that is easy to earn and redeem miles with; an easy, comfortable, modern terminal at Detroit, and Europe's best airport at AMS; by picking friends (partner airline) wisely (KLM)... add it all up, and Northwest is my favorite. |
