Chewing tobacco on flights, is this permitted? Does the FAA have any regulations on this whatsoever? I was recently on board a flight from New York City to Las Vegas on Continental airlines and had the misfortune of sitting across from a guy who was chewing tobacco. This was by the far the most disgusting thing I have ever encountered on a flight. The smell of the tobacco was disgusting and the transparent plastic cup that he was spitting into (filled with brown water and bits of tobacco) was equally disgusting. I asked the flight attendant if passengers were actually allowed to chew tobacco on flights and he said that they were, which I was really surprised by. I asked if there might be an empty seat anywhere else but he said no, the flight was full. So I spent the entire flight across from this guy and his plastic cup of tobacco spit. How can the FAA and the airlines allow tobacco chewing on flights? Are there any airlines that prohibit tobacco chewing? It's one thing to be crammed next to a stranger, it's something else when he's chewing tobacco...it's truly beyond disgusting. |
