Default Flying w/pet...?

Has anyone ever flown on US Airways w/a small dog under their seat and not purchased a Health Certificate? I called the airline and they said the Health Certificate is recommended, but not required. Mostly required for dogs that fly cargo and are unaccompanied - any horror stories? or good stories!? ;o) Thanks!

I have never done it (too expensive for an olde english bulldog!) but I have looked into it. You'll want to check, double check, and re-double check with the airline(s) you'll be flying on, and your departure and arrival airports. Get more than what you think you need from your vet and make sure you follow ALL guidelines in the timeline they require. If you don't have it, you can't fly. Period.

I like most pet owners would consider myself a responsible pet owners and get a health certificate before flying

Default Flying w/pet...?

a man checked his pet in , the pet(cat) was stored in the nose compartment of a 99 type aircraft, the nose compartment is not pressurized or heated, it was winter time...the plane landed at its destination, when the baggage handlers unloaded the nose compartment of the plane ,they discovered ,to their great dismay, the cat was dead,(animals should not be placed in this compartment)..they told the man ,his pet had been put on the wrong airplane and they would contact him as soon as it arrived ..the airline employees scrambled to find a look alike replacement for the dead animal, low and behold they were successful, replaced the dead pet with the newly found one and contacted the owner. The owner was delighted and hurried to the airport to retrieve his pet. When the airline employees nervously presented the passenger with his (new)pet, he took one look into the pet carrier and stated "this is not my cat!" Where is my cat!?"The reluctant airline employees caved in and confessed to the passenger what had occur ed and they meant no harm by switching the pets, and told the passenger how sorry they were but his beloved cat was dead. The passenger laughed his behind off. The employees couldn't understand this reaction, Until....The passenger told the employees.."the cat was dead to begin with" He was bringing it to his childhood home to be buried.

I got a certificate from my doctor that said Fred was an emotional support dog.. he got to ride in cabin.. on my lap.Check with the airline on their rules, many airlines do not allow pets in-cabin. You may have to make a reservation for your pet, as some airlines only allow a certain number of pets in-cabin for each flight. Check to be sure your pet and its airline approved carrier fits the carry-on standards. I would get the health cert just to be on the safe side. You never know with airline security these days, you may need it.
