Default I want to understand the meaning of some words in the following paragraphs. They are about in-flight meals.?

Delta Air Lines - Sadly, Delta's Snack Basket (items available on short flights) is a nearly 800-calorie ickfest. They go carb-crazy with cookies, crackers, and chips. The only redeemable item here is the Quaker granola bar.US Airways - This one's kinda lame as well, and is only served on flights that are 2.5 hours or longer. Cookies, crackers, cheese, and a fruit 'n nut mix will cost you nearly 500 calories. Stick with the fruit 'n nuts...In the first paragraph:1-What does the words between brackets refer to?2-What does they in the second sentence refer to?3-What's meant by ickfest, carb-crazy?In the second paragraph:-What is meant by This one's kinda lame as well?

items available on short flights - what is served on short flights, typicaly this means flights under 2 hrs.In the second sentence "they" is refering to the airline.Ickfest- many bad items.Carb-crazy - all the foods served are full of carbohydrates, and the author is against carbs."this one's kinda lame as well" - the author doesn't like US Airways selection of snacks.

First Paragraph1 - tells you that Delta's Snack Basket is only available on short flights (probably flights that are less than 2.5 hours long)2 - They refers to Delta Airlines3 - ickfest is slang. It means "unhealthy" and carb-crazy means the snacks are high in carbohydratesSecond paragraphThe phrase you are asking about means that this snack isn't very healthy either

1. The Snack Basket2. They refers to Delta Airlines3. ickfest means it isn't good, but I believe the writer means that it is not healthy. Carb-crazy means that all of the items Delta is serving, the cookies, crackers and chips, are high in carbohydrates. Also, not to sound picky, but those aren't brackets. They are parentheses.

(items available on short flights) -- this means that the "snack basket" is what is served on planes when they will only be in the air for three hours or less. A flight that takes longer than three hours would have to serve more food."They" refers to Delta Air Lines, i.e. whoever planned the "snack basket"Ickfest means the food does not taste good and is not good for you. Carb-crazy means the food is overloaded with unhealthy carbohydrates, which would mean highly processed sugars and starches."this one's kinda lame as well" means: While the food choices available on US Airways are not quite as bad as the ones on Delta Airlines, they are still of poor quality. The bottom line is, airline food is notoriously bad, so food reviewers try to be creative and humorous when giving a negative review of it.
