Default International flights with US Airways?

I've read a lot of the posts about US Airways, but I was wondering if I could hear only from people that have flown with them internationally.I'm planning a trip to go to The Netherlands in Feburary, and I was wondering what I could expect out of this 10+ hour flight. The only other time I've ever flown internationally was with British Air (which, I loved). So if it's possible, could you share you experiences with me on this airway? Where did you fly from/to, how was the space, the meals, etc. Thanks in advance! I also found a flight on Continental for the same price as the flight on US Airways.......so, now I must decide. I've flown Continental before so I know what to expect (but I flew from Cleveland to NYC..so no idea for international flights).

We are flying US-Germany once a year with US Airways. The service is okay, sometimes better, sometimes just standard. The meals are okay, although we had twice some problems with very overheated and overcooked meals. The kids meals were burning hot, including the chocolate bar that was melted. But I complained about that afterwards. What we really like about US Airways is that many of their planes have individual screens where you can watch your individual movie, in your pace (or listen to music). This is very nice. There's some varitey to choose from in different categories. However it's not guaranteed that you get one of these planes. We flew with those "individual monitor" planes for years to Germany ... and this summer we suddenly ended up with a smaller plane (on the kind of same flight). And it seems there's no way - for the regular customer - to find out about this in advance. But this is really a big pro for the long flight overseas, the individual monitors/the individual movie choice.

If you've read a lot about USAirways, then most likely it's about ALL of their flights and services. If it's bad on a domestic flight, it's not going to be any better internationally. They have a bunch of verrrrry unhappy employees over at Useless Airways, and with good reason. Avoid them at all costs until they get their stuff together...if it's a cheap flight you're wanting...and they have it...consider the old cliche', 'you get what you pay for'. If the Pizza is free, but so bad you can't eat it, what's it good for? You're taking a vacation, yes?? Don't start it off with a bad experience ie: lost luggage, delayed and misconnected flights (I just had a friend fly them from SC to Barcelona via Philly...they delayed and misconnected him and basically lied to him about getting him out on the next flight...what they failed to tell him, was he'd be getting out on the next AVAILABLE flight...he lost a whole day and a half of his vacation, and they lost his luggage).Save yourself the headache and fly again with British Airways...you liked them once...you'll probably like them again. Keep in mind, that KLM is the national airline for the Netherlands. They and their SKYTEAM alliance partners probably have the most non-stop flights from the most points in the US to Amsterdam...just a thought.

I flew from Philly to London on USAirways a couple of times. I;ve flown International with a couple of other airlines too. The food and service is unremarkable-- no better or worse than any of the other US-based airlines. You'll be given a meal right after takeoff and a snack before landing, and the food will be OK, not horrible, not great. There are rarely enough blankets to go around (this is true of any US-based airline though) but those things are nasty anyway; I bet the airplane blankets get washed about once a year. Bring a shawl or cloak or other soft, long garment that can double as a blanket. The seating really depends on the plane you are on. You can find this out from the itinerary-- be careful when choosing a seat on their Airbus A-330. The seats themselves are nice and comfortable, but the audio-visual equipment is stowed up under the "outer" seats, meaning the window seats for the small section of seats and the aisle seats on the big 4-seat section in the middle. This really kills your legroom so if you are tall, get an aisle-on-the-set-of-two seats.Personally I liked flying with them because Philly is a huge International hub for many airlines but it's also one of USAir's primary cities of operation. That means they have lots of spare parts on hand and can get another plane to you easily if there is a problem with your plane. If your flight goes out of DFW, take AA instead; if your flight goes out of MSP take Northwest. Most airlines do not have a very big fleet of the big International craft and being at their hub really helps if your plane needs to be replaced. if you want a very comfortable flight and good food, you won't find that with any of the US-based carriers. Seats are about the same size on all of them, and there's about 2 companies in the country that do the catering so the meal you get on USAir comes from the same kitchen as the meal on Continental. Look to the European airlines for a slightly better economy class although still not great; you might get an inch more space and a free glass of wine.
