There's currently no internet on most airplanes. They've just started a pilot program with a few airlines to provide wireless. If you happened to be on one of those flights, which are mostly international from my understanding, you wouldn't need a wireless card, because you have to turn that off. You would plug your laptop into a port.Jet Blue is offering it on limited flights. This is from just the other day. Quantas was offering it on international flights starting a few weeks ago, but other airlines aren't picking up until next year.http://www.statesman.com/business/content/business/stories/other/12/11/1211jetblue.html?cxtype=rss&cxsvc=7&cxcat=3http://www.usatoday.com/travel/flights/2007-12-14-in-flight-web_N.htm?csp=34So, you'll probably just be able to get an internet connection in the terminal.

Most airlines don't allow internet access yet. On US Airways, I think you are allowed to have internet access. I'm not sure about the wireless card thing though.

You would only be able to access the net via a specially set up flight. The specific planes on USAirways allow you to plug into the net via ethernet connection on the seat, and then all the signals are broadcast through an external antenna on the aircraft.FAA regs forbid the use of all wireless electronic devices while in flight. That means shutting off your wireless, bluetooth, and cell phone (unless it has a "safe" mode).Inside the aircraft (big aluminum tube with wings) wireless signals bounce around, and can amplify, creating a problem for navigational gear.
