I had company from Wales for the month of November. They took the Amtrack up and down the coast (California) and raved about how lovely it was and how awe struct they were by the scenery. I'd say "Yes", amtrack is a good way to travel.

Yes I am sure I can. I have traveled all over the US by car, train, and airplane. I've been in 48 states. Email me and let me know what your interests are. It's difficult to pick out places to visit without knowing those. It would be helpful to know your age bracket. Are you interested in "partying" or scenery, cities, small towns, National Parks, etc. I've been there and done that. It sounds like the trip of a lifetime.

Am Track is fine for getting to and from if you have the time. I live near Chicago and a trip to Whitefish Montana from here takes close to 40 hours. When you get there, you'll be dead tired unless you get a sleeper car. Then, the cost of the sleeper will be more than the cost of flying. It's not impossible to do these trips"off the cuff" but expect delays and a few plan changes and more expense. Be very careful in Chicago. I am on the alert if I go there for anything and I carry a gun as a retired policeman.Be careful and goodluck.

I'll be passing you in the sky in March, so I won't be much help. I'm heading to Glasgow for a week, and then on to Westport Quay in Ireland for another week! See ya at the airport!

Izzy: I'll trade places with you. I'll go over and walk on the mooahs and smell salt air and you can come to foggy old California. What to see: Please not the touristy stuff. Mar. is still cold in many parts of the country. Yes, if you're a Senior, you can get good rates on Amtrak. Just get the kind of ticket thatlet's you stop (like in Yellowstone) or wherever and spend the night, then go on. I did this on Greyhound once.they have a one price ticket where youcan go anywhere for 1 month. So I went North, then West then whereverI wanted to go. I stopped and got a hotel and showered and slept and wasready to go again. You really needa travel agent to plan this all for you. Most travel agents are free...they gettheir commission from the airlines, orAmtrak or (do we still have buses?)
