What's the best way to travel from NYC to UPENN in Philadelphia? There are 2 ways to get to Philadelphia from NYC by train: the expensive way, and the cheap way. You can get an Amtrack ticket, and be there in about 1.5 hours, or for about 1/3 the cost, you can take the NJ commuter train, that takes about 2 1/2 hours - from the same station (Pennsylvania Station) to Trenton, then get on Pennsylvania's SEPTA train to 30th street station. From there you can walk, or take the subway for one stop. You have to purchase your tickets before boarding. In NYC you have to ask where to get the tickets and trains. I do not remember the details, but you want the New Jersey commuter trains. When you get to Trenton, there are ticket machines on the platform, and you should have enough time to purchase your ticket to 30th Street if you come prepared with change. You will need 5 or 6 dollars, well maybe 6 or 7? If you get on the SEPTA train without a ticket they can charge you a surcharge of an extra few dollars, so if the train is about to leave, ask if it is OK without a ticket. If you will be returning within a month, you should definitely get a return ticket from the NJ Transport system. It is much cheaper than 2 one way tickets. I am not aware of any 'useful' two way fares on SEPTA.Bon voyage |
