go to hotels.com They have all the hotels rated, from 1 star to star. They have the best deals and you can read about other peoples experiences. Make sure that you get a hotel in the area that you are going to be in. There are many.

Budget hotels are usually found on the West Side, going in May you could stay at The Wellington which is in a great location of 55th Street and & 7th Avenue priced at $249 - you can walk to all the Fifth Avenue Shops, Take a bus or subway down to the theater district (or even walk) as the uptown/downtown blocks are shorter blocks than crosstown.I suggest you check http://www.hotelsntravel.com and check out their discount hotel list, you can read the reviews and check them out there.

There are not many cheap hotels in Manhattan. Cheap usually means not nice. Unless you want to stay in the city, check out this one. Free parking, 10 minutes away by public transit, and affordable...

Consider a 4-star hotel in Brooklyn or just across the Hudson River in New Jersey. What's your "cheap" number you have in mind? Consider a vacation package that wraps up hotel, sightseeing and maybe even a show!
