Does anyone know of a cheap (under $120 a night) hotel in New York City that is still pretty nice?

I am going to New York City in December and I am looking to book a hotel that is pretty inexpensive, but is also not a complete dump. If anyone has staying in a hotel and would recommend it, please let me know. Thanks!

At that time of year you are asking for the impossible. Only a hostel would be that cheap then. From Thanksgiving through New Years is the busiest, most expensive time to travel here and the hotels know it. Even a cheap hotel like Holiday Inn will be $300 a night during that time. The traditional cheapest hotels here like the Pennsylvania, Edison, etc. will be at least $200 and are likely to be close to full by now.

They dont exist in NY...you can probably find something with a shared bathroom about the size of a closet for that price. Check the standard websites, orbitz, hotwire, and travelocity.

Maybe if you stay in a hotel in one of the outer boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island or Queens) of if you stay in NJ, it might be almost possible.
