I've been to the Novotel in New York, Not bad at all, it's very convenient for all the sights and if posible, ask for a room overlooking the square, the views are amazing.Don't be put off by the entrance, which is just off Broadway on W52nd St, once inside it's very clean with stunning views of Broadway and Times Square from the restaurant. The hotel is used by a lot of French tourists as well as Air France cabin crew but don't let that put you off!

We were going to stay at the Novotel on the recomendation of friends but instead chose the Crowne Plaza in Times Square. I wish we had stayed at the Novotel as I didn't like the CP at all. The Novotel looks really nice on the website and from outside. Our friends loved it and it's in a great location too.Best thing to do though is wait a bit longer. Our first trip to New York was in January. We booked it on New Years Day on Expedia at the Roosevelt Hotel and flights on Virgin from LHR and it only cost us 398 pounds each!!
