Here are a couple of well located hotels that can be had under $125 a night in DC. Hotel Harrington is near Metro Center and only a block or two from the White House, the REd Roof Inn is in Chinatown, and near the Capitol. Both near the mall/Smithsonian. You can do most of the city on foot or via metro - lots of free audio tours on our podcast - I'm adding the link. Cheap places to eat. For fast food recommend food courts in Union Station, Post Office Pavilion and the Reagan International Trade Center. For nicer meal check out Chinatown, and Adams Morgan. Lots of great international restaurants, with low prices. Also giving you Washingtonian magazines "Cheap Eats" issue.

There's the Gettysburg Tour, and the Smithsonian, I think those are must see's when you're there. There's the 'All Day Combination Tour', you get to see George Washington's house and the Library of Congress and Fort Washington.http://www.123world.com/washington-dc/washington-dc-tours.php look up tours in Washington DC, that would be a helpful tool to you. Regarding hotels, I'm not sure what your price range is, but look into the Omni Shoreham Hotel, it's close to the zoo. And , The Melrose Hotel, it's close to George town, and I recommend you go to George town. I know the Fairmont has vacation packages, try travelzoo.com or discount hotels in DC to get the best deal around town. Enjoy your time in DC, I wish I was going.
