Default Cheap (but not sleazy hotels) in Vegas area?

Looking to do an overnighter from San Diego to Vegas on a Sat/Sun, I don't care about staying on the strip or even in Vegas, just need a place to sleep, and it could be an hour outside of LV, already looked into Primm to give you an idea of how far I'd head out of LV to sleep. Any ideas about Fremont St area are welcome as long as it's safe. Any other tips welcomed.I know my way around Vegas, I just wanted to get any ideas from locals or people who go regularly and have their "go to" place, or towns outside of LV that are lower in price.

I do not recommend Motel 6. It smelled like ass. We just left and went to the New York New York. It was nice. But more costly.

Try expedia.com. or hotels.com. They can give you some ideas of how much you'd expect to pay for a hotel. Also try your local travel agent, who might have more personal experience of hotels and motels in the area.

When are you going to Vegas? Check out these winter specials: Orleans from $18 /night Gold coast from $18 / night, Hardrock from $58 / night, Palms from $69 /nighthttp://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.htmlYou only get these prices if there are no major conventions in town. Also check priceline.com

Nothing is cheap if there are conventions in town.
