how do I travel from Los Angeles to Houston (by Car)? This is NOT the time to be doing this trip---you are going through lots of deserts, and long distances through them. It is a terrific amount of stress on your car, the car's cooling system, the tires, etc.If you want to have a fun, safe trip and see anything, please consider taking the bus.I have made it many times, and the best advice I can give is to rent a car and leave your own car at home. That way, if you have car trouble, you can just swap the rental for another along your route. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of a random car-garage somewhere in Arizona, Texas, or New Mexico, and in for big bucks. If you are driving yourself, it is a tough, gruelling trip.I would doubt you can make it in less than 4 days, if everything goes very well. From El Paso to Houston (a beautiful trip) is at least 10+ hours, hard miserable driving, for example. Safety on this route is also very important. It can be dangerous because there is the weather stress on your car, and there are a lot of isolated stretches. Actually, the whole route is isolated.Best thing to take in your car is a styrofoam cooler(s) with ice and drinks to have with you along the road. This helps with the heat, and makes driving more bearable.Beautiful scenery all along the way, but if you're making time driving you'll be too exhausted to enjoy much of it. The absolutely best and most beautiful stopover is the detour to Tombstone Arizona. It is worth seeing---a gorgeous setting, view, everything. It beats the Grand Canyon (which is out of your route anyway) hands down, IMHO. |
