From what I hear, very High. Three months might cost you about $4000-$5000.

I've had good luck on Craig's list but please be careful with who you deal with.

Find a friend who already has a place. No such thing as cheap in the City. Just a studio will cost you $1,500. And hotels will be higher. The only cheap places will be drug infested slummy areas, and I would'nt suggest that to anyone.

rent a RV or trailor, but the parking fee will cost over $600 per month.

As others have said, try www.craigslist.org. This site has many listings of apartments and houses for rent. My sister got great places in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Eugene, Oregon through this site. She even found here current house in Philadelphia through it. You could always try a house swap, but only if you feel comfortable having someone else take care of you house. I know I would love to live in Germany for 3 months! If only I lived in San Fran. San Francisco is an extremely expensive city, and the word "affordable" might have a different definition there. But it is an amazingly beautiful place. You'll have close access to other amazing California areas. Good luck, and don't trust everything you see on craigslist.
