It is because everyone wants to go to Vegas over New Years, so they can charge more because the rooms fill up. Try something downtown on Fremont. It is cheaper there.

Go to www.sidestep.com and use the Jan 1 arrival date and Jan 5 as departure and you will get some good prices. From $34 a night. Do not use Dec. 31 because that's the big night. The day after is when everyone is leaving so the prices drop significantly. Even the Luxor is only $85 a night. Good deals.

Check to hotel rates on www.wiitravel.com or www.findvacationsonline.com for great rates on air travel, rental cars, and hotels.

Most people on tight budgets don't try to go to Vegas during the biggest holiday and busiest time of year. Since the new year is "just another day", then change your plans and go on the 2nd or 3rd.You have got to be kidding me that you don't understand why it cost more during New Years.

and you may find great rates at the Tropicana. I always do and I love it there. In April I stayed for five nights in an upgraded room for $150 TOTAL! On the strip, you can't find better than that!
