is las vegas a waste of money ??

my fiancee wants to go to vegas for her birthday. its supposed to be her and her sisters going. but to me, i just dont think we can afford it. especially if you want to gamble. Maybe im just being cheap. but i hate the idea of gambling. i mean you already spent money with the hotel and air fare. now you have to eat and shop. then on top of that, gambling your money away. i just dont see the fun in that. lets be honest. even though they are other things to do. i know my girl. she is going to want to gamble. why not go to new york and go shopping? at least you will have something to show for your money spent.

I agree with you, I think gambling is a waste of money. I have been to Las Vegas a few times and have found lots of other things to do. Seeing all of the hotels, people watching, etc. However, members of my family wouldn't dream of leaving the casinos. Good Luck with whatever you all decide.

I completely agree. I just don't get it.There are other things to do there, of coarse, but it's really about the gambling. It's a little seedy to me.

I have been to vegas dozens of times and only gambled twice. There are plenty of other things to do there. If you are forced into a casino with your friends, just watch. It's not too hard to watch other people spend their hard earned money. At least it's not yours. Go and have fun!!!!!

It is her Birthday and that's what she wants to do.Maybe make an agreement to how much she's going to gamble. There are a lot of other things to do becides gambling. I only gamble on penny slots, and just drink the rest of my money away.

You don't have to gamble to have a good time. There are so many other things to do in Vegas. The shows alone are worth the trip. Shopping is some of the best in the country. And besides, it a great place to get away and relax.She does need to set a limit on her gambling. And she needs to stick to it. I found 50 bucks a day to be plenty, and I just was there a couple of weeks ago.Vegas is an inexpensive place compared to NY.Greasy Tony said something that really makes sense. I played the penny slots only. between 9 and 30 cents a play.I had a lot of fun with them, only played nickle machines once.Gambling is entertainment, and it needs to be viewed as that. It needs to be stressed to her that she will NOT win.Play for fun, there is so much to do besides gambling.

I agree with you.This a place for gamblers. Even though you can just check out the hotels and shows, the idea and main purpose of this town is gamble and prostitution, and it is promoted very openly with the phrase "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas".Usually (with some exceptions) people go to Vegas to gamble, drink, have an "adventure" etc., that is the marketing strategy and it works.I don't like it either, and as you say, I would prefer New York City.
