Default Least expensive time to visit Hong Kong? Cheapest flights to Hong Kong from Los Angeles?

I want to visit Hong kong and I have flexibility with the time I can travel. I'd like to know what time of year I can get best rates on airfare and hotel?

No doubt airfare and hotel are two biggest guys that eat up most of your budget for visiting Hk. The smartest choice on saving is to avoid going when all others want to go, unless you don't mind it's packed with locals and tourists everywhere. So here is what I think you should AVOID:For airfare (LA-HK,round trip falls into these periods)Xmas / NYD (mid Dec-mid Jan)CNY (usually mid Jan-mid Feb. depending on the lunar calendar each year)Easter (late mar-mid Apr)Summer season (mid Jun-mid Sept)For Hotel, AVOIDXmas / NYD (mid Dec-early Jan)Summer Season (July and August)The tricky period: Major conventions, Business fairs/shows (pick up in Mar. hot in April, May, and Sept, die down mid Oct)Definitely NOT period:May 1st holidays (a.k.a. Golden week in China)(1 week bf and af May 1)Chinese National Day holidays (another Golden Week in China) (1wk bf/af Oct 1)K.I.S.S., visit in Nov. till early Dec.. Not much rain, clear sky, temp is around 70-75 F, low in humidity. More important, the cheapest Airfare in the year, low rate in Hotel rooms, more availability on space from both. Your back up plan will be in late Feb till March.check out the schedules of all future activities in the events and conventions sections from the site below

never go during China's holidays, which fall on dates like May 1-7, Oct 1-7 and during Chinese New Year (dates change every year). I usually go during the summer.. end July is always the best when everything is like 70% off. I came from the Philippines and from the PI to HK during summer, the air rates are so so low. Cebu Pacific airline always have the cheapest deals.

Your question has been asked an answered in a general sense, with advice to travel in off peak times. I notice that flights seem to be at their very cheapest while it's still cold but after Chinese New Year and before the summer holidays (like March - April) which also happens to be pretty good weather in HK. Flights in September and November seem to be pretty cheap, too. I compare prices (and flight schedules for this grueling flight) by looking directly at airline web sites. Don't forget to also look at the Asian airlines like Cathay Pacific and China Southern. The Travelocity equivalent in Asia is called zuji: http://www.zuji.com and it has a nice search engine that allows you to search over a range of months for cheapest fares. As far as hotel, the YMCA Salisbury is a well located 3 - 4 star hotel and generally has a good long stay special listed on its web site for Feb - March -- check that hotel in particular at its web site -- and you can also use zuji to research many other hotels including customer recommendations. You didn't ask about china, but China Southern is offering a China airpass, kind of like a Eurrail pass but for air passage, with three air stops inside China for something like $360 US. The tickets must be booked from outside China and with a China Southern Ticket agent. At the moment their web site appears to be down, but there is more information there, which I THINK is http://www.chinasouthern.com.cn
