I am planning a trip to vegas looked at all the sites and think Circus Circus is my best be or El Cortez as far as cheap rooms. Wondering if Vegas still has those cheap rooms outside the nice interior of the hotels such as Stardust didn't the rooms use to be 19 bucks a night in some of those places? Need a v egas native or a really penny pinching gambler to let me in on any other places I can look into on staying at.Don't care about the ammenities just need a place to crash while there. Thanks in advance

Those days are gone. The corporations figured out that they can actually make good money by renting their rooms and not giving them away like before. In the past you gambled at the place to stayed ... now people travel to others to gamble. The cheap buffets are disappearing also. Being replaced by upscale fancy expensive restaurants. The cheap vacation is a thing of the past here. Gambling revenue has fallen with lower profits so they have to have to make up the money somewhere. You can get comped but have to give them something in return. Sorry... times have changed.

Cheap is a subjective term. What is cheap for someone else may be expensive for someone else. You can still get good rates, but yes the 19 buck rate is gone. Inflation has done that. I figure if I can get a room for about 69 bucks I'm doing good.Circus Circus is one of the old stand-bys so is the Riviera across the street. I just stayed at the Riviera and had a blast. The room was plenty fine for what we needed. Just a place to sleep and stretch out was all we looked for.There is still cheap food, the lowest we paid for a buffett was at the Sahara which is just a couple of blocks away from Circus Circus and the Riviera.Had a nice meal downtown at the Golden Nugget about 7 bucks a person.Vegas still is a deal, you can find coupons for everything, keep your eyes open.Have fun.

Depends on if you want cheap or you want value. Cheap would scare me, yet I am being very frugal! I vowed never to walk through the doors to circus circus again. I hated it. It smelled, the atmosphere was shady and it is the worse place under the sun for kids and seeing all these kids running around playing kid size games of chance made my stomach turn! Have you considered staying downtown? Rooms there are much less expensive. You can still get to the strip without much problem. I looked at a map of the monorail and from what I see, it almost goes all the way downtown now. Downtown, we considered Main Street Station and the Four Queens and decided on the Golden Nugget. It is not pretentious and does not have all the amenities of the big new hotels but we are paying $69 or so a night on week nights for mid December while it is still a 4 star hotel. I know that is not $19 a night, but I am fairly certain I won't be afraid to lay my head down or sit on the toilet and will be close to everything. A modest hotel on the strip is Bally's. It is a nuts and bolts hotel with a nice small casino but is attached to Paris and all the amenities of Paris are available. It is in the middle of the strip, there is a monorail stop at Paris and if you get a Strip side room, you can probably see and hear the Bilagio fountains outside. Unless you are seriously hard core, I would look for value and not necessarily cheap. Have fun!

You can typically save money by staying off of the Strip. The local casinos, like Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock, and Sunset Station, have nicer rooms than the "cheap" rooms on the Strip and have nicer ammenities. There are many local casinos scattered all over the city, depending upon where you want to stay.

El Cortez??? I'd never, and those $19.00 a night rates are long gone baby! But, you could always rent by the hour on Las Vegas Blvd, North of Sahara if you're adventure seeking!Stratosphere or one of the Stations Casinos is your best bet.Safe & Comfy rooms...Sundays are usually the cheapest...Make sure to leave lots of $$$ We need the bucks!

The truly "cheap" places are cheap for a reason - they're disgusting little holes. (Or they rent by the hour.) If you don't care about anything other than the room being clean and near the Strip - there's a Hampton Inn off of Tropicana - it's about a city block from the end of the Strip by MGM Grand/Excalibur/NYNY. Depending on the time of year you go, I'd paid $50 a night during June. It's not walkable, but it'd be a $5 cab ride or so. Otherwise, use www.vegas.com to book a room - it's the cheapest way, unless you have some time - go to the websites to the hotels that interest you and sign up for their email list = you'll get emails every 2-4 weeks or so with promo codes for cheaper rooms....
