San Deigo to Las Vegas? go to sidestep.com and download their widget. It will compare all airlines and also offer you the option for vacation packages, which you can personalize by selecting different flights and hotels to compare prices. I find if you have a slot card you will get better room rates through the casino/hotel's website. The most expensive nights to stay are Friday and Saturday, with reduced rates Sunday through Thursday nights, so if you can be flexible it will help. I'm planning to be there myself 12/17-21, staying downtown. The best bargain for a good clean room is the El Cortez, which is on Fremont Street a block east of Las Vegas Boulevard. Their classic rooms are on top of the garage and have outdoor corridors, but the rooms are clean and well maintained and access is by way of an elevator from inside the casino and there are cameras on the corridors, so there's good security. El Cortez runs about $30-35/night. It's a steal. If you can plan your trip through a package from Travelocity.com which includes both hotel and airfare, any daily hotel charge for energy surcharge will be included in your package and you won't pay any extra charges except what you actually use (in-room phone charges, room service, etc.). The Deuce bus will take you from downtown all the way to the outlet mall south of the airport. The best part about being downtown is there's GOOD live entertainment in the streets at night and it's free. Also, the slots are looser there. Once you have a slot card, you can save even more - both downtown and on the Strip. I'm staying at Main Street Station for $40/night ($44 with fees) because I made reservations on line and used my slot card to register at their website, and the advertised rate is $90+/night, so you get the idea.
