Is the Staples Center right downtown Los Angeles?

I am going to a concert at the Staples Center in a few months and I am trying to figure out wheres the best place for me to stay in LA. Should I try and find a hotel/motel near Staples Center? I want a reasonably priced place to stay that is close to downtown(I think) and sightseeing but also cheap but not grungy. Any ideas? Thanks.

The Hilton is a few blocks down. Dont get anything too close to the center - just trust me!

I live about 15-20 min from the Staples Center in Torrance, CA. And if I were you I would stay in either Hermosa Beach, or Manhattan Beach. I had a few friends come and visit from Europe and they loved it. I also had some friends stay in the Downtown LA but they preferred the beach as well.

Yes, the Staples Center is downtown. Unless you stay at one of the major UPSCALE hotels nearby, it is not the best part of town to be in. Look for lodging to either the north or west of the center. The immediate areas to the east and south are DEFINITELY not where you want to stay. Enjoy the concert.

Awwwww, were you lucky enough to get Hannah Montana Tickets ????? You very lucky????? If you must stay downtown you could try the Bonaventure, otherwise listen to peddlepup above....

Yeah not the best area.. it's near like 14th(?) street and I never like to go past like 3rd alone..

Yes and no. Staples is on on Figueroa. you can catch the Blue Line and get off at Pico and there is the Staple Center.
