What is a good hotel in the los angeles area?

i was looking at ca hotels online, and alot of the cheap ones in la sounds like their in a bad area... i've never been to california but i wanna roadtrop there this summer.. where would be a good/affordable place to stay? (it doesnt necessarily have to be in LA)

Chateau Marmont, Peninsula, Four Seasons, and the Standard are my favorites

Stay at the youth hostels. They are cheaper.But if you want to pay, Ramada Inn or Holiday Inn

Any Embassy suites or Marriot, it all depends on where in LA.

Check out the Beverly Garland Hotel. It is just in the San Fernando Valley that give you easy acces to Universal studios, Fairfax and Hollywood. check it out and see if it works for you.
