Default Cheap cities for hotels between Dallas/Houston?

We are traveling from OKC to Houston and would like to stop at a smaller city between Dallas and Houston to stay a night and take a break. What are some smaller cities on the way which would have cheaper lodging?

Fairfield,Texas about 60 miles south of Dallas on interstate 45 about 160 miles from houston. town of about 3000 people. I recommend Gilberto's restaurant for good reasonable dining.
