Default Do I need advance reservation for hotels/motels/inns in the US?

We will be attending a prayer congress in dallas texas. Due to limited budget we opted to pay for the package that does not include the hotel. We plan, instead, of checking into a cheaper motel/inn instead. Should we reserve for a room in advance or just walk into the motel/inn upon arrival?

All the better hotels will need reservations, but lesser hotels in less convenient parts of town will probably have rooms on arrival. It also depends on the season. Dallas is pretty big, but if it's high season, you may have a problem getting a room near to where you want to be, and will have to pay more for transportation to get around. Why not check the triple A (AAA), they can often help with information on accommodations in all price ranges.

Well, unless you want to take a chance there will be no rooms available then yes you should. That way you won't need to worry.

It is always best to book in advance, that way you are guaranteed for somewhere to stay

It is better to make reservations because it just might happen that all the hotels and motels are booked in the area you are going to stay in.

They are like any accomodation anywhere in the world - you can make a reservation and a room will be available when you arrive, or just turn up without a reservation and hope they have a room. If you decide to make a reservation, just check the cancellation policy. If you know exactly when and where you want to stay, I'd make a reservation.

In your case it would be best to book in advance especially if a large number of people want to stay in the same place. On the other hand I have car traveled all over the U.S. and have never failed to get a room start looking late afternoon, if you wait till say 9-10 pm you may be in trouble especially on holidays or weekends..

It probably makes more sense to reserve in advance. You might be able to find a better deal, a more convenient location, etc. that way. I have had good luck using expedia.com to find a hotel and make reservations - but there are a lot of different sites.

An advance reservation is not required if ur going into a city where there is a lot of turism u should reserve, if not well, u dont need it.
