Default Any advice on picking a room at the Stratosphere and/or Flamingo hotel?

I have reservations for a World Tower Deluxe room at the Stratosphere and a Go room at the Flamingo. (I'm staying at the Flamingo for a business conference, but coming in early on my own dime to do some sightseeing, so I chose the Strat for those days because it was much cheaper.) Does anyone have any specific recommendations at to what room numbers/locations I should try and get at either of those hotels? I'd like a quiet, nice room in a relatively convenient location. (I've gotten that kind of "inside" info about a Disney hotel in Orlando in the past, and it really made a difference -- the room I got by asking was MUCH better than the one my coworker got by chance.)Any suggestions? (And any other tips about staying in either of those hotels?)TIA!Okay, apparently my question wasn't clear enough... The rooms are reserved - I'm not planning to change hotels, nor change the type of room (unless I can get a free upgrade). What I'm looking for are suggested room numbers or locations within the already established parameters.(I appreciate the feedback on the Strat, but it was by far the best deal and I'm not afraid of public transportation, since I grew up in NYC.)Thanks to both people who took the time to post an answer so far...I'm hoping some other folks will post too, with responses that more closely answer the question I was trying to ask.

All of the rooms at the Stratosphere are about the same unless you spring for a suite. Due to their recent lack of popularity I've heard if you are nice to the reception desk they will give you a room upgrade. I am not sure how true that is but I would believe it. The problem with staying at the Stratosphere is that it is on one end of the strip and in a bad area for crime. If you want to do a lot of sight seeing and walking around by yourself I would consider staying at a hotel that's right in the middle of the strip (such as the Flamingo). Typically if you book online you can get great rates at the Monte Carlo, Harrah's, and sometimes the Paris. Some great websites are:Tripres.comVegas.comExpedia.comTravelworm.com

The only drawback to staying at the Stratosphere is it will be SO far from the strip, you will have to rent a car or take public transportation if you plan to visit any of the strip hotels. If that's ok with you, then I'd definitely go with an upgraded room. In my experiences when I've stayed at even just mediocre hotels, the upgraded (spa suite, for example) rooms made all the difference. They always have a great view and are on higher floors. I personally love the Flamingo. It's a great price for the room, the hotel is right in the middle of the strip (great location) and there's a lot of great places to visit nearby without the need for taking public transportation or driving there. Another hotel that I really like for a great price is Bally's. It's located right next to the Flamingo.Have fun!!

Just got back from Vegas and stayed @ the Stratosphere.Don't stay on the 8th floor this is where the pool & fitness center are located at, so there is constant foot traffic. We were only there for 2 days so we didn't upgrade our room (3rd floor) the view was ugly, but our stay was pleasant.Hope this helps and have fun. )
