Default Montreal to Russia?

I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and I would LOVE to visit Russia. My problem is that I know nothing when it comes to cheap flights, hotels, packages, tours, etc. I'm great when it comes to Glasgow, but sadly that won't help me now :PDoes anyone have any advice for a poor, admittedly ignorant, Montrealer like myself? It would be much appreciated! What time of the year to go, what to visit, which airlines are cheaper, etc. Ta!

Cfares.compriceline.com best prices...try looking for train passes and stuff online. You can bagpack. and i am sure there are plenty of people there willing to point you towards their local attractions.

I was in russia last year (Moscow and Siberia). My advise is : don't go there by yourself. If you don't know anybody overthere, find a "package trip" with a travel agency and follow the guide. In Russia, police (and any official agent) is highly corropted (I experienced it). There is plenty of "obscur rules" you can be trapped in...This is a beautiful country, but not politically stable yet... even after 20 years of "transition regime"

Don't go by yourself if you don't speak Russian. This isn't Scotland...

Russia is less dangerous than it was in the 90-ies, but it is STILL DANGEROUS! Do NOT go to Russia alone if you don't know the language and the culture! Many Russians will take full advantage of you if you let them! They call people who are easy to take advantage of "LOKH" and are proud to take advantage of them!So be on your toes!
