Default Where to stay in Montreal (for cheap first-timer)?

I have a week's worth of vacation that I will be spending in Montreal. I'm looking for a place to stay for under $100 a night, and don't drive (live in NYC). Oh, and I don't want a hotel that feels cheap, or like a generic hotel.

You can Amtrak to Montreal. Look for places on Rue de Denis. You can walk there or take the underground.

Look up Manoir Sherbrooke on Sherbrooke street. Cool little bed and breakfast, close to downtown.

Try the Hotel St. Denis. Right down town. Definately not a generic hotel!

a nice place to stay is the Holiday Inn in the China Town. It's fairly close to the Old Port/Monreal, and close to the Metro to go Uptown. Good luck and have fun!
